The Former Prez Sez
What a great Reunion we just had at the “Home of the Army Dollar” in Indianapolis. I
want to thank all of you that came to the Reunion and had the opportunity to have
some great fellowship and tell some old (for some of us, very old) stories. I think
everyone was happy we had such a fantastic hotel, for the opportunities to see the
many changes to downtown Indy, and how Lawrence Township has incorporated Fort
Ben into the city. It was also great to see how the city has maintained many of the
buildings and other sites we all remember so well.
As I leave the RAFINO Presidency, I can honestly tell you RAFINO is in great hands
with Mike Kelly as the new President and Rich Rosen as the new Vice President.
Additionally, we were briefed by Imre during the business meeting that RAFINO is
on great financial footing, and as an organization, we currently are good to go. However, we cannot just sit back
on our laurels; we have to continue to work with the schoolhouse and the Finance Corps Association to continue
to feed the pipeline with new people. Also, I would like you all to talk to retired Finance friends and let them
know the great time we had at the Reunion and the importance of maintaining our Finance Corps legacy.
As I look back on these two years, the team accomplished a few things that will only assist and make the
organization better going forward. One thing that will help is bringing in a professional military reunion
planner. As Mark Sullivan and Jesse Sablan can attest, planning and conducting a reunion is a lot of hard work.
Also, if you ask them, ensuring one is as good as the one we just had is something they probably will not want
to do any time soon. For the next Reunion at Charleston, South Carolina, in 2024, we have selected Armed
Services Reunion Inc., an organization with a proven track record in planning and conducting military reunions,
to do the heavy lifting for our Reunion.
As I close this, I would be remiss if I did not thank the folks who made the past two years and the Reunion a
success. First and foremost, I would like to thank my Vice President, Christine Brosius. Her social media posts
and sage advice always kept me and the team on point. The CSMs, JT and Mark, you made this Reunion a
success and ensured no balls were dropped along the way. The Finance Reunion oracle, Robby Robson, you
were the gate- and data-keeper of anything RAFINO Reunion, and your wonderful spouse, Nancy, who jumped
in to provide assistance with everything: Without you two, this and other Reunions would not have been nearly
as successful. Now, go enjoy your honeymoon and remember to return for future Reunions. Imre the money
man, thank you. Smitty has big shoes to fill. Thank you for making sure the books were kept properly with no
(at least, no known) discrepancies.
Thank you all for a great two years, and all the best to Mike, Rich, and your team. See you all in Charleston in
2024.
