SCOTUS Equalizes Reservists Pay

In a U.S. Supreme Court decision today, where Justice Sonia Sotomayor, typically aligned with the court’s liberal wing, joined four conservative justices in a 5–4 ruling.  The case involved an FAA air traffic controller who earned less during five years of active duty in the Coast Guard. The Court clarified that all reservists activated during national emergencies are entitled to differential pay, ensuring federal workers called to military service don’t face financial penalties when transitioning from civilian to military roles. The ruling addressed a gap in federal employment protections for reservists.
