MS MILDRED S. LUX To TAPS

Mildred (Saber) Lux, 97, entered eternal rest on December 9, 2021. Born in Wilkes Barre, PA on July 19, 1924 to Michael and Agnes Saber, “Millie” attended Coughlin High School and graduated in 1942.

Immediately upon graduation and during World War II, she joined the Department of Defense and began a career in finance that spanned 38 years. Starting in Washington, DC and following with assignments in Newark, NJ and St Louis, MO, she settled permanently in Indianapolis, IN working at what is now the Major General Emmett J. Bean Federal Center. She worked closely with General Bean and others administering the finance operation of the US Army and later all branches of the military. Among other high-profile projects, she served as Assistant Chief of the JUMPS Army Conversion Operation to computerize payrolls, for which she received a special commendation. She retired in 1980 and lived the rest of her life in Indianapolis.

Millie’s retirement was far from idle time. She was committed to volunteer work and helping others, especially at the Children’s Bureau Family Support Center and as part of the SERTOMA Club of Northeast Indianapolis where she spent countless hours serving others. Millie was also a longtime volunteer tour guide for elementary students at the Indiana State House. She was an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who delighted in her entire extended family, and an enthusiastic traveler who visited nearly every corner of the world.

SURVIVING ARE: Her sister, Rita Brown of Clayton, DE; nieces, Lynda (William) Loytty and Lynda’s children Anne Turner and Matthew Turner of Wilmington, NC; Diane Saber Swartz of Kildeer, IL; Donna Saber of Ipswich, MA; Deborah Saber of Oroke, ME and one nephew, Matthew Brown of Cottonwood, AZ. Of the Wendling family (Millie’s 1st husband James Wendling/deceased); nieces, Anne Price of Carrollton, GA; Nancy Peacock of Nashville, TN; Barbara Williams of Carrollton, GA; nephew Robert E. Wendling; and others. Of the Lux Family: Susan Lux McMurray of Lake Bluff, IL, her children Michael, Kathleen Davis (John), Daniel, and Patrick (Caitlin); Kathleen Lux McKinney and her children Timothy (Jessica), Matthew, and Annie Johnson (Paul); son, Thomas Lux, Jr. (Donata) and their children, Christopher (Colleen), John (Debbie) and Benjamin (Sarah); daughter, Mary Linda Lux Hays (Thomas) and their children, Thomas Hays, Jr and Lindsay Saraj (John), and Millie’s 20 great grandchildren.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Her husband of 40 years, Thomas Lux, Sr; parents, Michael and Agnes Saber; four brothers, Edward, John, William and Joseph; her first husband, James Wendling and a niece, Lorraine Saber Smith.

The family extends a heartfelt “Thank You” to all who helped in Mrs. Lux’s care at Compassus Hospice Care, Senior Home Companions, Community North Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital.

VIEWING was held Wednesday, December 15, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Leppert Mortuary, Nora (740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis). MASS of Christian Burial was Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church (4650 N. Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis, IN) with visitation in the church one hour prior to Mass. There was a PRIVATE INTERMENT SERVICE (immediate family only) at Holy Cross Cemetery following the funeral Mass and a RECEPTION open to all from 2:00 to 4:00 (near the church – specific location  was announced at the funeral)

Millie was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
