MRS ANITA ANDERSON To TAPS

2793, 27 May 2021

Anita Anderson, 78, of Hot Springs Village, AR, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. She was born to the late Kurt and Julianne Asel on July 20, 1942, in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Her father whom she unfortunately never got to know as she was too young was lost on the Russian front during WW 2.

After completing her German schooling, she began her working career as a secretary at the US Army base in Kaiserslautern, Germany. This is also where she met the love of her life, Carl Anderson who preceded her in death in October 2013. They were married on June 2, 1962, in Kaiserslautern and they welcomed their first son on March 19, 1963, followed by their second son on June 1, 1964. During Carl’s 23-year military career they often moved between tours in the USA and Germany. In the years prior and after Carl’s military retirement they both began second careers working for the US government civilian services (GS) in Heidelberg, Germany. Here Anita started working again as a secretary first for the Corps of Engineers on Campbell Barracks, and later she joined the Chaplains Office on base as their head secretary. Shortly before their civilian careers came to an end they lived for a brief period in Columbus, Ohio while Carl was the Assistant Deputy Finance Head for the Defense Finance Accounting Service. Upon his retirement they moved to a retirement community in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas in early 1999. Here they both enjoyed the many activities and interacting with an active American and German community of friends. Anita loved to travel and spent time on extended boat cruises and coming back to visit family and friends in Germany.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents, her brother Wilhelm, and grandson Jeffrey.

She is survived by her sons, Eric and Michael, their wives Suzanne and Erica, along with 2 grandchildren Jordan and Sydney and one great-grandson JJ.

Anita will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa on June 7th, 2021, with her beloved husband Carl.
