Ms. PEREZ, NORMA to TAPS

NormaPerez_RIPMs. NORMA PEREZ, 82, (Wife of COL HECTOR), passed away 2/9/2019.


Norma was born on October 12,1936 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. After high school, she continued her studies in New York, where she then, enlisted in the Women's Army Corps and was honorably discharged in 1961.

She returned to Puerto Rico where she met and married Col.(Ret) Héctor Pérez on May 18, 1963.

Norma was a life-long volunteer for the American Red Cross for over 50 years. She worked in military hospitals serving veterans worldwide. In Indianapolis, she worked in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township as an ESL teacher and staff member. She was a member of the Officer's Wives Club, Association of International Women, and served as a Eucharist minister at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She is preceded by her parents and sister Nivea Rivera.


She is survived by her husband Col(Ret) Héctor Pérez, her children Tony, Noris, Javier, Claris (Robert) MacDonald, grandchildren James and John, and sisters Maggie and Doris Rivera.

The Perez family would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to our many friends that have become part of our extended family over the many years. We would, also, like to extend our admiration to all the doctors and nurses of IU Saxony and IU Methodist Hospitals, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, and Leppert Mortuary and Crematory Services.

Family and friends will gather from 4-8 p.m. Feb. 14, 2019 at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 East 86th Street. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Feb. 15, 2019 will be held at St Lawrence Catholic Church 6944 E. 46th St. Indianapolis, IN In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross of Indianapolis and St. Lawrence Catholic School.

Thursday eveing wake/calling and the Friday funeral mass were well attended by many many friends and church members. Hector is doing well surrounded by family and friends.  Dave Mikkelson
