MSG Edward S. STEPOWSKI to TAPs

2464, 02 Jan 2019
MSG Edward S. STEPOWSKI passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

MSG(RET) Edward Stanley Stepowski Jr., age 65 of Center Line, died Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren. He was born October 8, 1951 in Detroit, son of the late Edward Sr., and the late Josephine (nee: Grinda) Stepowski.

Following graduation and amidst the height of the Vietnam War, Uncle Sam came calling and found Ed drafted into the United States Army. Ed completed his basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and a last minute question ("Is anyone on this plane good at math") by a superior officer sent Ed from a plane headed to the jungles of Vietnam to one headed to Hawaii instead. He spent 8 years in Hawaii serving as an accountant and fulfilled the last 12 years of his military career in Germany. Ed considered his time in the service, truly, to be the best years of his life. For many years following his retirement, it was not uncommon for Ed to sign his Christmas cards, "Master Sgt. Edward S. Stepowski, Retired."

Following his honorable service to our country, Ed enjoyed his second career at the Shoppers Market on 10 Mile Road in Center Line, just a short distance from his home.

Ed was an avid sports enthusiast. He played softball for many years, and was also an avid bowler, often bowling on several leagues at once. He was a tremendous bowler who, if he could have kept his composure, might have had a shot on the Professional Bowling Tour. Yet when Ed was not participating in sports, he enjoyed watching it on television which often meant taking in a little Michigan Football or a Toronto Maple Leafs game,...not the hometown Red Wings.

Edward was the father of Edward S. III, Shannon, Matthew, and Kahlena. Grandfather of Donovan, Devynn, and Jadyn. Brother of John (Marla), Michael, Robert, and Katherine.
