FMNET Message 30 MAR 2018

2242, 02 Apr 2018

 FMNet Members:

1.Aristotle stated, “We are defined by what we repeatedly do.  Therefore excellence is a habit, not an act.”  (2018 Aristotle)  The goal of the FMNet is to connect the Finance Corps at all levels, expounding on current business practices through a collective, collaborative effort.  To achieve this goal, I am soliciting all members to submit their best practices to share with all through postings, blogs, and weekly message.  The effort may be monumental, but I am eager for the challenge.  Let us take the entire Finance Corps from proficient to efficient in some of the more challenging tasks we all have faced. 'Each One, Reach One'

2.Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM), the Sustainment Architect for the Army, is developing a new Field Manual (FM) for Sustainment Operations (FM 4-0).  This FM describes Theater Sustainment (SUST) Command mission, structure, functions and capabilities.  To that end, 4-0 will inform all SUST proponent-level doctrinal publications (i.e. FM 1-06).  More to follow in a subsequent FMNet post.

3.How would you as a financial manager design a successful Army Financial Management Professional Development Program?  Have you as a professional pondered this question?  Fortunately, two individuals from the Proponency side of the house have published an article on this very subject, read more on the FMNet.

Training Opportunities:

1.FMNet highlights the Ultimate Training Environment System (UTES) Community of Interest (COI).  For all users who are not familiar with UTES or how to leverage this tool to conduct home station training, a blog posted within UTES COI provides an overview.  (https://www.milsuite.mil/book/community/spaces/afms/utes/blog/2017/11/27/utes-overview)  We encourage our users to leverage this superb tool; where financial managers (military and civilian) can train on identical systems used in real-time to provide Operational Contract Support (OCS)/Procure-to-Pay Business Process at home station.  Users can train together in the same room or across the globe.
