GEORGE HUNTINGTON BANISTER COL JULY 15, 2022
Colonel George H. “Hunt” Banister passed away on July 15, 2022 at his home in Springfield, Virginia
surrounded by loved ones. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, his family later moved to Baltimore, Maryland.
He graduated from Johns Hopkins University (BS) and American University (MBA). Hunt served in the U.S.
Army for eight years of active duty, including service in Vietnam, and 30 years of Reserve service, retiring as a
full Colonel. Following his active duty service, he had a career with the federal government, retiring as Acting
Director of Selective Service System. Upon retirement, Hunt enjoyed playing golf regularly and spending time
with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda; his two daughters and their husbands, Betsy and Ryan Hannaford,
Carly and Geoff Mwaungulu; three grandchildren, Cameron, Henry and Olivia Hunt; brother, Sam Banister and
wife Ginny.

We are heartbroken to announce to you the passing of Mr. Mark Sullivan, Army Financial Services senior
financial manager. Mark was a devout husband, father, friend and professional, and his family asked us to pass
along this incredibly sad news.
Mark retired from active duty as a Command Sergeant Major after more than 22 years before joining our
civilian ranks for the last 13 years. During that time, he lived out the very best of our motto, “Service to
Soldiers.” Mark had just finished his most recent professional success as the RAFINO VP for Reunions and the
highly successful Reunion in Indianapolis.
Mark is survived by his wife Rosalinda, daughter Annica, his sisters Cindy, Judy and Chris, and brother
Anthony.
DELORES LEIGH AKERS EDMONDSON (Wife of COL James) March 2, 2022
Our loving mother, sister, and wife, Dolores Leigh Akers Edmondson, 85, of Christiansburg, VA accepted the
hand of Jesus March 2, 2022, after battling multiple health issues leading to hospice care since Christmas Eve
2021, peacefully in her home in Christiansburg, VA. Dolores Leigh Akers Edmondson was born on September
18, 1936 in Williamson, WV to Corbin W. Akers and Mary Scott Akers of Williamson WV, both deceased.
After graduating from Blacksburg High School, Dolores married her high school sweetheart, James Preston
Edmondson from Purcellville, VA, on June 4, 1955. Dolores is survived by her husband as well as five children:
Preston Scott Edmondson of Morrisville, NC (Debbie), Lisa Kay Echols of Wichita, KS (Drew), Richard Drew
Edmondson of Morehead City, NC (Patti), Teresa Ann Esteves of Christiansburg, VA (Noel), and Dennis Neil
Edmondson of Christiansburg, VA, and 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
