The Retired Army Finance Organization "Keeping the Finance Family Together"
Posted as: Bulletin
Recently I was privileged to present the 86th award of the LTC Lewis L. Hawkins Award on behalf of Annette Martin (LTC Hawkin's widow) to CPT Brendan Buckley during the Financial Management Captain's Career Course Class 002-17 graduation. This award is a memorial to LTC Hawkins, US Army Finance Corps, who was killed on 2 June 1973 by terrorists while serving with the military assistance group in Teheran, Iran. During the award I make the point to the Captain's graduating that the war on terror is not new and that this award binds all of us who have served and continue to serve in Army finance together. I mention the evacuation of Iran a few years later and how our finance personnel had to destroy funds prior to departure. Also mention RAFINO as an organization for their future.
The Hawkins award has been the premier award during the Captain's Course graduation since June 1973.
