Janet Spang to TAPs

Janet Rose Dalton Spang 67, wife of LTC ALAN W. SPANG, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 14, 2013. She was born on October 22, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At age of 3 her family moved to Wolf Point, Montana. She attended school there and graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1963. In 1967 she graduated from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. In February 1968 - 1970 she was a Women's Army Corps (WAC) Officer at Ft. McClellan, Alabama and later at Ft. Harrison, Indiana. Janet was promoted to rank of 1st Lieutenant and in November 1968 married Alan W. Spang LTC US Army. She worked and volunteered through her years in Indianapolis.

Janet has been a member of the Cornelia Cole Fairbanks Chapter DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) since 1978 and served as an officer for over 10 years. She was elected the Regent of her Chapter for 1996 - 1998. As DAR Regent, she originated the "DAR Christmas for Veterans" project and also led members in the preparation effort for Holiday tray favors at the Hospital for over 10 years. In 1995 she was the DAR's East/Central Outstanding VA Voluntary Service Volunteer for the year. She is also known for her volunteer work at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center as well as having served on the VA Volunteer Service (VAVS) Board at the Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Alan Wesley Spang, LTC U.S. Army, Ret.; sons, Karl Bernard, Seattle, WA and Gregory Steven, Indianapolis, IN and stepchildren, Alan Wesley Spang, Jr. Portland, OR, Linda Lee O'Toole, Dallas, TX and William Mark Spang, Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Sean, Alex, and Danielle Spang of Portland, OR and Lauren Spang of Naples, FL and her sister, Marilyn Ann Dalton DeSonia of Apache Junction, AZ.

Burial was on October 18, 2013, in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN.
