UPDATE: SGM Carl (Andy) ANDERSON to TAPs

SGM Carl (Andy) ANDERSON passed away on Friday, October 04, 2013.

He had suffered for many years with Lewy Body Dementia w/Parkinson's.
He will be cremated and buried next spring in his home town of Cherokee, Iowa.

Carl G. Anderson of Hot Springs, Arkansas, formerly of Cherokee, passed away in Hot Springs on October 4, 2013 at the age of 74, following a long illness.

Carl was born on June 3, 1939 in Cherokee to Leonard L. and Mildred (Bloomberg) Anderson. He attended school in Cherokee, graduating with the Class of 1957 from Washington High School. He enjoyed his high school years, loved to play basketball, and had many good friends here. In the fall after graduation, Carl joined the U.S. Army, where he served his country for 23 years, from 1957 until 1980. Early in his overseas tour he met and married the love of his life, his wife Anita. Throughout his military career he often moved between the USA and his various duty stations in Germany. During his many years of service he also had two tours of duty in Vietnam. His final duty station was in Heidelberg, Germany, where he retired in December of 1980.
During his Army career, Carl served in the Finance Corps and rose to the rank of Sergeant Major in the Army, the highest attainable rank for non-commissioned officers.

After his retirement from the military , Carl spent another 19 years in the government civilian workforce. As a US government civilian, he attained the position of Deputy Finance Director within the Defense Finance and Accounting System organization, and subsequently retired in 1999 to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Leonard O. (an infant) and Richard; a grandson, Jeffrey; and hsi mother-in-law and brother-in-law in Germany.

He is survived by his wife Anita; son Eric (Suzanne) and granddaughter Sydney; son Michael (Erica) and grandson Jordan; one sister, Carol (Marvin) Peterson of Cherokee; one uncle Donald M. Johnson of Cherokee; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins , and many other relatives and friends.

The burial and memorial service will be in the Spring of 2014 in Cherokee when the children can arrange to be here. Any relatives and friends who would like to attend the memorial service and then join the family in a time of fellowship and remembrance (at a place to be announced) would be very welcome.
