LTC Olin W. ROPER to TAPs

LTC Olin W. ROPER passed away on Sunday, December 03, 2017.

Lieutenant Colonel Olin Wayne Roper, 81, of West Columbia, South Carolina passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2017. He was born on December 31, 1935 in Pickens County, South Carolina to Elbert Paul Roper and Dorothy Mae Trotter Roper.

Lieutenant Colonel Roper worked in payroll for the South Carolina Army National Guard for over 20 Years. He retired as Chief of Pay and Exam Division, Ft. Gordon, GA. He served two years at the Army Finance Center Indianapolis (DFAS). He also worked for the Lexington County Library for nearly 13 years.

He was the former Vice President and President of Cayce-West Columbia Civitans. He attended Easley High School, Columbia Commercial College and the Palmetto Military Academy. He graduated from Command and General Staff College, and was assigned to the Finance Corps, Adjutant General Corps and as Staff Specialist in the Selective Service.

He was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church, Lexington, where he previously served as deacon.

Lieutenant Colonel Roper is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Livingston Roper, West Columbia; two daughters, Laura McKenzie (Greg), Richmond, VA and Nancy Holliday (Michael), Idaho Falls, ID; and a son, Paul Andrew Roper (Suzanne), West Columbia. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Graeme Michael Holliday, Zane Joseph Holliday and Heath Rowan Holiday of Idaho Falls, ID and Marley Ash of West Columbia.
He is also survived by his brother, William Calvin Roper (Vickie), Spartanburg, SC and his sister-in- law, Barbara Elwell (Luther), Due West, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elbert Paul Roper and Dorothy Mae Trotter Roper, of Easley, South Carolina; and three grandchildren, Andrea Dorothy McKenzie, Samuel Charles McKenzie and Abigail Jacqueline McKenzie of Richmond, VA.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon), Friday, December 8, 2017 at Northside Baptist Church, 4347 Sunset Blvd., Lexington, SC 29072. Interment will be in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, Columbia, SC 29169 will be assisting with arrangements.
