Stinky Rials from Iran Pullout
173, 30 Aug 2009Here is some more information concerning the Iran pull-out referenced in the “Iran, 30 years ago” article by Dave Mikkelson in Finance Stories. Stan GILLASPIE remembers it well. “I was the Cash Control Officer at Central Finance & Accounting Office. We converted and processed all of the foreign currency brought out by the soldiers and civilians. The rials stunk so bad we had to keep them in plastic bags. I was told the Iranians carry their money in their shoes, and they don't wear socks, you can imagine."
