Dan Newman and the Bear

Dear friends and family,

I was lying in bed one day in a hospital ward in Saigon after a minor knee surgery. An orderly wheeled a young man into the ward and parked his bed next to mine. I asked him why he was there. He responded that a small arms round had entered the floor of his chopper and nailed his foot. I said "Bummer." He said "Well, some days you get the bear and some days the bear gets you."

Yesterday the bear got me. My oncologist advised me that my cancer isn't a very nice one. (I never thought they made nice ones). We'll start chemo next week and see what happens. I've beaten it before and I'll give it a battle again.
