Express Scripts SNAFU

859, 23 Jul 2013

Those whose prescriptions are handled through Express Scripts need to be aware of a possible error condition that could seriously affect you.

If you had other health insurance (OHI) in conjunction with an earlier civilian job from which you have since quit/retired, Express Scripts appears to have a routine that goes back into history and, if it finds any such earlier OHI, it changes your account to one with currently active "OHI" , which is, thus, ineligible for most TRICARE prescription benefits.

You should log into your Express Scripts account and check that this has not occurred in your account.

UPDATE:

Bob OHalloran added this note:

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but in addition to the what you noted about OHI, I have had to get a prescription filled locally and used CVS pharmacy to do that and what has happened on both occasions is when the CVS person enters the data to ring up the charge, it automatically adds a code "3" which then changes it to OHI so then the transaction will go thru. I have had to speak to Express Scripts on two separate occasions to remove the flag in the Express Scripts system to reflect that I do not have OHI. Express Scripts states that it is the Pharmacy system that does this. Especially CVS.
