Earl Daniels on the DL

670, 24 Sep 2012

Earl Daniels has sustained an injury that precludes his attending the Reunion.  Per his email of 9/23/2012:

I am very sorry to have to report that Vickie and I will not be able to attend the reunion.  My back injury turned out to be a lot worst than originally diagnosed.  Last Saturday, a week ago, I was thrown from a horse and ended up in the emergency room.  At that time, while I had lots of pain, there were no evidence of broken bones so I was given pain medication and sent home.  On Wednesday I started having excruciating back spasms about every forty-five seconds to a minute.

I was back to ER where I was admitted to the hospital.  I was released last evening.  In short, I severely damaged a nerve that runs from my spine, under my shoulder blade and around my ribs to the right side of my body.  The nerve had become inflamed and  was triggering the spasms.  So, I have spent the last four days in the hospital.   Next week I am to learn whether I will need back surgery or a series of injections.  Currently the spasms are not as severe nor as lengthy in duration which tells me the inflammation is getting better..  I am to remain in bed with a heat pad to injured area.  Depending on the decision next week I will learn how long I will be on a "no travel" restriction.  When I asked about the possibility of "flying" the doctor wanted to know what I didn't understand about no travel.

Get well, cowboy.  We'll miss you and Vickie.
