After being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, I was selected for a branch assignment in the Finance Corps and went to Fort Benjamin Harrison for the Finance Officer Basic Course and Military Accounting training. I was then sent to Germany where I served as the Disbursing Officer at the 38th Finance Section in Heilbronn. Later I was transferred to the 14th Finance Section in Bamburg where I served as the Military Pay Officer. My military career consists of over 21 years as a Finance Officer in the Active Component, and a few years in the Reserve Component when I took a break in service from active duty to raise children. During that time I served in budgeting assignments as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) and as a Troop Program Unit (TPU) officer. I returned to active duty and served for four years as a Budget Officer in the Comptroller Division of the Chief, Army Reserve in the Pentagon in the 1990's. I served an additional nine years on active duty in the Washington, DC area, serving in other budget and budget-related assignments. I retired in June 2004 as a Colonel (O-6) after a full and fruitful military career in the fields of Finance, Budget, Program Analysis, Acquisition, and Logistics. Since my retirement from the Army eight years ago, I have been serving in a civilian capacity as the Budget Officer for a federal agency in Washington, DC.
