MS APPLEBEE, ANN to TAPs

MS ANN APPLEBEE, widow of [COL JOHN E.], passed away 11/14/2011.

She passed away peacefully at Mount Vernon Hospital from heart failure.

She was born in Brownsville, Texas on September 5, 1926. She is preceded by her parents Judge and Mrs. James Q. Louthan and her husband of 50 years, Col. John E. Applebee. Ann graduated summa cum laude from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas with a degree in music. Her love of music continued through her life. Early on, she was a concert pianist and then while in Japan in 1952 she learned to play the samisen and gave many performances. She was involved in the Officers' Wives Clubs and was President at Fort Belvoir. Ann loved traveling with her family to many exciting places all over the world. She moved to The Fairfax Retirement Community in 2004 where made many new friends and was involved in playing bridge and the artist guild. She enjoyed showing her needlepoint at the Fairfax art shows. Ann is survived by her four children, Steven Applebee of Hampton Tennessee, Susan Davis of Allendale New Jersey, Helen Applebee of Fairfax and Elisabeth Barrand of Vienna. She has seven grandchildren, Lara Applebee-Powell of Katy Texas, Cory and Scott Davis of Allendale New Jersey, and Kyle, Connor, Chase and Olivia Barrand of Vienna Virginia. Ann was a great grandmother to Steven and Nicole Applebee of Norfolk Virginia. A grave side service will be held at Arlington Cemetery on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. There will also be a Celebration of Life Reception at The Fairfax from 1 to 3 p.m on Saturday, December 10. Ann will be missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Susan G. Komen Foundation .
