SGM JAMES S. GILLASPIE To TAPS

James Stanley Gillaspie, better known to his friends and family as “Stanley” or “Stan” passed away at the age of 81 on Saturday, September 2, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Stan was born on May 26, 1942, in Galax, Virginia to Margie (Creed) and Cleo Gillaspie. After graduating from Galax High School, Stan attended East Tennessee State University then joined the US Army in January 1964. He served in Vietnam, Germany and the U.S. After 30 years of active duty, Sergeant Major Gillaspie retired from the Army and started his second career as a government civilian employee. He was an active member of RAFINO (Retired Army Finance Organization). Stan was an avid golfer and Dallas Cowboy fan.

 

Stan was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and several aunts and uncles. Stan was survived by Monika Rohr Gillaspie, his beloved wife of 52 years, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pastor Douglas Hurt will officiate. Full Army Honors will be rendered before interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

This has been a tough couple of weeks - losing so many members of our Finance NCO pantheon!
