MRS CAROL EDE To TAPS

2763, 19 Jan 2021

MRS CAROL EDE passed away 1/14/2021.

Carol Lee (Johnson) Ede was born in Fresno. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1956. She married Franklin Delano Ede on January 11, 1957. Two years later, Frank joined the Army and Carol lived the life of a military spouse. Carol made a lovely home for her family in Alaska, Indiana, California, Kansas and Germany over Frank’s 28-year career. She was passionate about helping others. She volunteered for ACS (Army Community Services) and Red Cross at each of Frank’s postings. For her children, she was a cub scout and 4-H leader. In 1977, after Frank’s retirement, Carol began her career with the USDA Forest Service. There, she worked in personnel where she became a retirement expert – her knowledge was sought after even in retirement. The highlight of her job was to spend summers at the fire camp of many California fires making purchases to aid firefighters. In 2002 Carol retired to care for her husband. Shortly after, Frank died, and she began traveling. She especially loved cruising the world and could be found going on several each year. Her children have been scattered across America, giving her yet another reason to travel. She made certain to attend the high school graduation of all her grandchildren. In most recent history, Carol was involved with the Edison Social Club where she served as president. She adored animals; nearly all her pets had been strays and shelter animals. Her delight was feeding scores of hummingbirds daily. Her flower garden was a feast for eyes and shared fruits from her trees and vines with everyone. Carol will be remembered for her generous heart, wonderful sense of humor and her love for her Lord Jesus Christ. She had been a member of the Fresno Christian Reformed Church since 1963, but due to the military, did not fully settle in until 1977.

Carol leaves behind a daughter Lydia Foley and her husband Stephen, Franklin Ede, Jr. and his wife Charlene, and Brian Ede and his wife Kimberlee. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. She has left a hole that cannot be filled. Arrangements are for a private memorial and burial. Viewing will be at Stephens and Bean from 11:00 – 3:00 on Saturday, January 23. A celebration of Carol’s life will be arranged after the pandemic so we can all come together to share our love for her in the way she deserves.
