LTC ROBERT J. WITHINGTON passed away 8/16/2018.

Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Robert “Bob” Withington, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away August 16, 2018. He was born March 24, 1935 in West Haven, Connecticut to the late William and Charlotte (Burke) Withington. Bob graduated from Hamden High School, received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Connecticut and received his MBA from Syracuse University.

He proudly served in the United States Army for 20 years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Bob was also the CFO for Adult and Child Mental Health Centers for 18 years. For over 43 years, he was a member of Church of the Nativity- Episcopal. Bob was a true family man. His joy would come from spending time with his family and friends. He also loved opera and classical music.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. at Church of the Nativity, 7300 Lantern Road, Indianapolis, 46256.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy Withington; daughters, Pamela Madsen and Deborah Withington; son, Douglas Withington; granddaughter, Caitlin Allen; and great-granddaughter, Emerson Lawrence. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Tom Withington; and grandson, Christopher Stanis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Nativity. Services entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel.

His pastor provided the following:

With sadness, we announce the death this morning of our long-time Nativity family member Bob Withington.

Despite several attempts since last April to stop leaks in Bob's heart, healing was not possible.  When the family arrived at the heart hospital today, they learned that Bob was now experiencing kidney failure.  Bob's loving family, with Amma Susan, were all present as he died peacefully.

Bob's funeral and burial in the Memorial Garden will take place at Church of the Nativity at 4pm, Saturday, August 25.  Visitation will precede, beginning at 3pm.  And honoring Nan and Bob's long-time retirement tradition of a glass of wine at 5pm, a happy hour reception will follow.

Please keep Nan, their children Pamela, Debbie, and Doug, Pam's daughter Caitlin, Caitlin's daughter Emerson, and Bob and Nan's dog Haley, as well as all of Bob's family and friends, in your prayers.

May Bob's soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
