LTC Murray W. Hannon, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Murray is survived by his wife of 63 years, Karen, his four daughters: Cheryl Joslyn (John), Leslie Mauldin (Don), Debbie Nelbach (Chris), and Cindy Hannon (Terry); his eleven grandchildren: Kate Jennaro (Brian), Nick Joslyn (Julia), Lara Lind (David), Peter Joslyn (Brittany), Brian Danielson, Caryn Danielson, Stephen Danielson, Nathan Danielson, Nicholas Nelbach (Meg), AJ Lederle (Erica), and Alex Lederle (Meghan); and nine great-grandchildren:Henry and Anna Jennaro; Walter, Hannon, Alex, Julian, and Betts Lind; Mila Nelbach; and Ashton Lederle; and one cat, Woodsie.

Born in Redding, California, to William and Dorothy Hannon, Murray grew up in California and went to the University of California, Berkeley (go Golden Bears) where he met his wife, Karen. After earning his MBA, Murray began his career as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1957. Following tours in Kentucky, Germany, California, Washington, Vietnam, Indiana, and Kansas, Murray and his family settled in northern Virginia, where he continued to serve in the Army until his retirement in 1978.

Murray was quite the prankster throughout his life—the stories he told from his younger days brought much laughter to all. The antics never stopped, nor did the laughter. He was a special friend, the best listener, and his words of advice will be remembered by many. Golfing and bowling were amongst Murray’s favorite pastimes. He spent many hours at Springfield Golf and Country Club, where he will be missed. Murray loved spending time with his family, from beach vacations andspecial trips with grandchildren tochildren’s and grandchildren’s graduations and weddings. The 60th wedding anniversary party in 2015 honoring Murray and Karen was an event to be remembered!  He loved a variety of sports, but he was passionate about the Washington Nationals.

In lieu of flowers, please remember our loving husband and father through his favorite charities—St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Fisher House. He will be missed.
