2097, 18 Sep 2017Major Helen Thomas was born in St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands (USVI). She entered the Army as a private and graduated from Basic Training on 10 Oct 1989. She worked as a Laboratory Technician in the Army for over nine (9) years achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. While serving in the enlisted rank, she was selected to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, GA in 1999. On May 27, 1999, she was commissioned as a Finance Officer in the United States Army. She served in many roles such as Financial Manager, Disbursing Officer, Instructor, Executive Officer (XO) and Commander. Her final assignment before retirement was at Fort Bragg, NC as the Fort Bragg Banking Liaison Officer. Major Thomas retired on April 30th, 2015 after serving 25 years, 6 months and 21 days in the United States Army. She started working as a Budget Analyst in March 2015 to Present. Helen currently works for the United States Army Reserve Command (USARC) at Fort Bragg, NC. She also conducts a weekly CDFM Study Group and developed a CDFM Study Group Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX1gp3GinDrj4E8HR7J1Rfw to assist other Financial Managers earn their CDFM certification.
