MS KATHRYN UNDERWOOD To TAPS

Kathryn Byrd Underwood, 94, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM at Riverside Cemetery, North Gate, on Sunday, August 14, 2016 with the Reverend Cass Ducharme officiating. Family will greet friends between 4:00-6:00PM on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Highland Hills Baptist Church, 1370 Briarcliff Road, Macon, Georgia 31211 or Pruitt Hospice, 6060 Lakeside Commons Drive, Macon, Georgia 31210

Mrs. Underwood was the daughter of the late Bessie Bell Thompson and Hiram Van Zant Byrd. Kathryn’s favorite place was Melbourne, Florida where she and her husband, Lt. Col. Underwood, were stationed for many years before his retirement. She was very active in the American Legion Post 3 and was both President and Secretary of the Auxiliary. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Shurlington Baptist Church but was currently a longstanding member of Highland Hills Baptist Church and their Friendship Class. Kathryn was predeceased by her husband, Luther Underwood; grandson, Grant Hendrickson; great grandson, Tyler Underwood; and sister, Velma Maxwell.

Survivors include her children, Mike Underwood of Bradley, Georgia, Mary Hendrickson of Macon, and Lynn Hensley (Don) of Macon; grandchildren, Luke Underwood of Gray, Laura Underwood of Bradley, Georgia, and Benjamin Hensley of Macon; three great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks and their appreciation to caregiver, Mattie Solomon, Bolingreen Health and Rehab, and Pruitt Hospice.
