1807, 29 Nov 2016LTC(P) Garvey A. Wright a native of Emporia, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Business and Economics in May 1990 from Virginia State University and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant US Army through the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program.
LTC(P) Wright currently serves as a Defense Resource Manager on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. His duties and responsibilities consist of providing analysis, advice, and recommendations to the senior leadership in the Department of Defense. His primary focus is on Overseas Contingency Operations and European Reassurance Initiative issues. He validates cost estimates and resolves funding issues related to military operations across the Joint Staff and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
He has served 26 plus year in the United States Army which consist of two combat tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Three tours in the Republic of Korea, and several assignments in the Military District of Washington.
His awards and decorations consist of a Bronze Star, six Meritorious Service Medal, two Joint Services Commendation Medal, four Army Commendation Medal, four Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal and the Parachutes Badge.
