Ms. ANN, ROGAN to TAPS

1468, 20 Dec 2015

Ms. ANN ROGAN, (Wife of COL JOHN), passed away 1/28/2015 from traumatic brain injury complications following an accidental fall.

Anna May Cogan Rogan was born in Weehawken, NJ on Sept. 30, 1924 to parents James and Grace Moriarty Cogan who later relocated to Lakewood,Ohio. Ann was the oldest of seven living siblings, little Henry having died of pneumonia. She attended parochial school and graduated from Lakewood High in 1942. Her typing and shorthand skills soon enabled her to become private secretary to the president of Standard Oil of Cleveland. She looked forward to helping the war effort in some meaningful capacity and accepted a position with the American Red Cross, initially in Korea and then in Kyoto Japan, where she met the love of her life, First Lt. John F. Rogan, Finance Corps, in July 1950. They immediately recognized their many background similarities-both Irish, Catholic, oldest of seven, only one letter difference in their last name, and soon began making plans to marry in Ann's home town when they rotated back to the states. Unfortunately, the sudden outbreak of the Korean War interfered with these plans and it appeared that Jack would be sent to Korea. Convinced that they were meant for each other, they decided to get married right away and hope for the best. They located a Catholic priest and were married in Kyoto on July 16, 1950. They spent the next 22 months in Sasebo, Japan where Suzanne, the first of nine children, was born in May, 1951. Ann was a wonderful, kind, supportive, and loving wife and mother who had a great sense of humor and positive outlook on life. Her strength and grace was evident to all who knew her. In addition to Suzanne, the other children are John, Jr., Kathleen, Patricia, Colleen, Michael, Kevin, David and Maureen. The grandchildren are Trevor and Jenna Rogan, Ryan and Kelsey Padgham, Aidan and Cameron Cozzi, Noah Rogan, and Kyle and Krista Cazares. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her siblings James, twins Robert & Richard, Patricia, Grace, and Lucille.
