LTC DONALD N. VARTANIAN to TAPs

LTC DONALD N. VARTANIAN passed away in Indianapolis on Monday, March 09, 2015.

He was born May 15, 1948 in Ypsilanti, MI, to the late Harold S. and Dariel E. Sutton Vartanian.  Don was a 1966 graduate of Bellevue High School, Bellevue, NE.  He received his Associate Degree from Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn, MI, and his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Eastern Michigan University, where he was a member of the Alumni Association.

Don was a career soldier in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1998, after 26 years of service.  He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.  Don was active in the American Volkssport Association, where he was a Past National Officer and in the "Hall of Fame".  He was also a member of VFW Post #7119.  He was a part of a close circle of friends for over 30 years, lovingly known as the "Yahoo Bandits".

Visitation will be Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Rd. with funeral services Monday at 11:00 a.m.  Interment with Military Honors will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI, Wednesday, March 18, at 1:00 p.m.

Don is survived by his devoted siblings, Jean K. Perry (Philip J.), Douglas P. Vartanian (Jennifer S.) and Susan M. Vartanian (Stephen Bensinger); aunt, Kay Vartanian; niece, Allison R. Vartanian; nephews, Ryan D. Vartanian, David W. Perry and James C. Perry; and five great-nieces.
