MAJ FRANCESCO GIAMMALVO To TAPS

MAJ FRANCESCO GIAMMALVO passed away 12/3/2011 at the age of 95.

Francesco was born July 14, 1916 to Salvatore and Louise Giammalvo in New Bedford, MA. He joined the Army in 1938 and was a veteran of three wars. He retired at a young age from the Army as a Finance Officer and started a second career in Civil Service as a Budget Analysis.

Francesco enjoyed playing the guitar, learning new languages, poetry and anything to do with computers. He had a wonderful sense of humor and everyone loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Bertha, son, Frankie Jr., sister, Josephine and his parents. Survivors include daughters, Lynne McClearn and Cookie Giammalvo, two sisters, four brothers, nieces, nephews and his loving friends. Many thanks to his nurse Mary Powell and her staff for the wonderful and compassionate care he received during his illness, and also to Sylvia Flores for her generosity and friendship she showered on Francesco during his final days. He loved you all.

A Funeral Mass was held at 12:00 p.m. on December 12, 2011 at the St. Anthony De Padua Church, 102 Lorenz, 78209. Interment followed at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
