COL ALFRED E. BARBOUR To TAPS

Funeral Services for Col. Alfred E. "Al" Barbour, age 88, who died peacefully after a long illness on Sept. 25, 2009, were held Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Baggett & Summers Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Austin Brinkerhoff & Rev. Emese Asztalos of First Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach officiating. His family  received friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday (today), Sept. 29. Interment with full military honors was  held at Arlington National Cemetery on Fri., Dec. 11, 2009 at 1 p.m.

Al, son of Robert Guy and Charlotte May Twiford Barbour was born and raised in Rock Point, MD. He was a Career Army Officer for 30 years serving in the U.S. Army Finance Corps, attaining the rank of Colonel. His career included tours of duty both home and abroad, culminating in his position at Ft. George G. Meade, MD, as Comptroller of the First U.S. Army, and a final tour in Heidleburg, Germany. He was awarded numerous awards and medals throughout his career.

He retired to Florida from Odenton, MD and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach and the Halifax River Yacht Club.

He will be greatly missed by his family who survives him: his wife, N. Jeanne Barbour of 33 years; his two daughters, Pamela (James) Taylor, Silver Spring, MD, and Sandy Barlow, Melbourne, FL; his daughter by marriage, Pamela Northcutt, Silver Spring, MD; brother, James (Betty) Barbour, Port Tobacco, MD; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his former wife of 19 years, Marguerite Neibler, his parents, three brothers and sister, and his son-in-law, Brigadier General Bruce Barlow.
