Major (Ret.) Michael J. West II was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1993 in the Finance Corps after graduating from Eastern New Mexico University with a bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science. He later obtained a master’s degree in Finance from Webster University.
His past assignments include: Disbursing Officer and later Commander, Alpha Detachment, 33d Finance Battalion, Fort Drum NY; Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, and later Battalion Operations Officer, 176th Finance Battalion, Yongsan Korea; Finance Corps Combat and Material Developer, US Army Finance School, Fort Jackson SC; Executive Officer, 10th Soldier Support Battalion, Fort Drum NY; Commander, 33d Financial Management Support Unit, Fort Drum NY; and Financial Management Support Operations Officer, 10th Sustainment Brigade, Fort Drum NY. His final active duty assignment was to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Resource Management, United States Army Europe, Heidelberg Germany and Wiesbaden Germany as the Deputy Chief, International Agreements Division.
His military education includes the Finance Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School and Comptroller Intermediate Level Education.
His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, the National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Multinational Force and Observers Medal and the Air Assault badge.
Major (Ret.) West has served in Operation Restore/Uphold Democracy, Haiti; Multinational Force and Observers Peacekeeping, Sinai Egypt; and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.
Major (Ret.) West currently serves as a Department of the Army civilian at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe for the Deputy Chief of Staff for Resource Management, United States Army Europe as the NATO Financial Administrator (US).
