The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a world-renowned attraction and destination for kids of all ages. For more than four decades, the first week in October brings the smell of roasting chiles and the beautiful, magical moving picture show of hot air balloons sailing silently through the crisp fall air.
Guests from all over the world come to Albuquerque to celebrate ballooning. Literally hundreds of balloons will be taking flight from the Balloon Fiesta Park October 6-14, 2018.
From its modest beginnings in 1972 with 13 balloons launching from a shopping mall parking lot, the Balloon Fiesta has grown to multiple events launching year-round at the custom-designed, 365-acre Balloon Fiesta Park. The signature event remains Balloon Fiesta—which, with almost 600 balloons, is the largest ballooning event on earth, the most photographed event on earth, and the largest annual international event held in the United States.
Imagine 54 football fields, all put together. That's the size of Balloon Fiesta Park's 78-acre launch field! And at this Park's "playing field," there are no losing teams and no viewing stands. Guests walk the field and are part of the action.
Checkout these links (provided by a commercial room booking service - which we do not endorse) for more details on the festival: Albuquerque Balloon Festival Pro Tips and the Albuquerque Balloon Festival Guide.
Only in Albuquerque can you walk (YES! Up close and personal) among more than 500 hot air balloons as they make their way from the field at the Balloon Fiesta Park to hundreds of feet, painting the sky full of colors and shapes, above you. As the world’s largest event of its kind, this festival engages all five senses. Take in images unseen anywhere else. Stand among these peaceful giants and feel the air change as hot air balloons rise all around you.
But Wait, There’s More… Hosted by Bruce and Lucy Prater (who have called the area home since dirt was discovered), Albuquerque and the surrounding area provides for a unique Southwestern experience. Plenty of food, sights and activities for all: from the Sandia Peak Aerial Tram, Unser Racing Museum, Historic Old Town, several Winery Tours, a Breaking Bad Tour, Indian Cultural Center, all handicap accessible. And we even haven’t gotten to the hotel yet.
Host, Bruce Prater has contracted with the Isleta Resort and Casino (phone: (505) 724-3800 ) , which, he advises, is a a place where veterans are appreciated. That address is: 11000 Broadway Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM
Decorated with works by Native American artists, this contemporary resort • casino is located 8.5 miles from Albuquerque International Sunport.
The sleek, art-filled rooms and suites feature flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi; some add balconies with desert views. An upscale suite features 2 balconies and a pool table.
The resort offers both an indoor and outdoor pool, plus golf courses, a spa, a game complex with bowling, billiards and laser tag, and fishing; in addition to the casino. Dining options include a steakhouse, pasta buffet, and a coffee bar. Live entertainment is showcased regularly.
Per Bruce: "It is a pretty nice establishment. Yes, it is both a Casino and Resort. We are using the Resort area (Lodging, Hospitality and Banquet Rooms, Pool, Spa and one restaurant) which is separated by a zig-zag hallway. You can't see, barely hear, any slot machines or smell smoke (not allowed in resort area). The resort is about 12 miles (South) from center of downtown, there is however, a free shuttle (3 minutes) to the train stop that can then get you downtown or all the way to Santa Fe. Yes, it is as nice at it looks in the pictures (I took them). It's actually better than nice, closer to great! Did I mention how nice it is?""
Bruce has negotiated a room rate of
$115.54 per night.
Taxes, etc. are included in these nightly rates.
