PREZ SEZ

It has been over a year since our wonderful reunion in Washington, DC.   It is now time to focus our attention on our reunion in Indianapolis next August.  It will be great to see the changes at Fort Benjamin Harrison and the old “Home of the Army Dollar”.  Indianapolis is a great city and I am sure our reunion committee will have plenty of activities for our viewing pleasure.  But of course the biggest element will be to see each other again and update the old war stories.

Recently, I had the pleasure of being one of the attendees at the retirement dinner at the Fort Jackson Officers Club in honor of BG Hugh TANT and his family.  It was a great event and fitting testimonial to send off one of our own after thirty years of devoted service.  During the dinner there was a very interesting slide presentation spanning the period of BG Tant’s service with various uniforms, the General with a full head of hair, and yes-even bicep poses.  COL Bill LANDRUM and I were privileged to sit at the table with some of Hugh’s Citadel classmates and friends.  Bill certainly did not let on he was a VMI grad until he actually had too.  It is very evident that Hugh will miss the Army and especially soldiers, but he will still have all of us.  Hugh and Chris are moving back to the Charleston area, so look them up when you visit the great state of South Carolina.

Bon Voyage, to our members, spouses, and guests who will be roughing it on the upcoming cruise.  Hope the weather is great and the activities memorable.  We look forward to the stories on this one.  I am sure Claud will capture all of the details with his digital camera and that we may have an opportunity to view the candid shots at reunion 2002.

I have been your President for a year now and I am pleased to be in that position.  One of my goals was to maintain and increase our membership.  I find that we do not have the right answer to ensure our membership is maintained, because it seems our informal individual dependent method of dues payment does not result in an automatic payment and membership renewal.  The Photo Book of the reunion 2000 that was mailed to every member last week had a code for unpaid dues on the label. (A $ is worth $10 and a $$ is worth $15.)  That book is in the mail, so check the label when you get your copy.  We will continue our quest to increase membership and current members please insure that you have sent your dues payment to Dave Mikkelson.

WE need to hear more from our membership!   My email address is:    MoDenny99@aol.com

Don’t become our WEAKEST LINK, pay your dues and obtain another member!   Have a great fall season everyone.
