IN MEMORY OF PHIL

The following article was furnished by MAJ Daniel SVARANOWIC with a request that we publish it as a farewell from the staff at TRADOC.

Philip Edward ANDERSON LTC (Ret), U.S. Army, died on Tuesday,8 AUG 2000.Mr.Anderson was employed as a GS-14 by Headquarters, TRADOC, as Chief, Accounting Services Division, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Resource Management, since 1980.During his service at Fort Monroe, he was awarded the Finance Regimental Award, called the Towson Award, from the U.S. Army Finance Corps.

He retired from the U.S. Army as a LTC. During his service in the Army, he served in Vietnam from 1968-1969,where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He was a member of Apostles Lutheran Church in Gloucester, where he was the director of the adult and youth choirs.  Mr. Anderson was also a member and secretary/treasurer of the Society of Retired Army Finance Officers Association (RAFINO), member and treasurer of the Virginia Choral Society, member of the Virginia Finance Committee of ELBA, and member of the of the American Society of Military Comptrollers, where he also served on the Scholarship Committee.

Mr. Anderson did his undergraduate work at North Georgia College and his master's degree at William and Mary. He was a native of Georgetown, SC, and had lived in Gloucester for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Jeanne" ANDERSON two daughters, Phyllis SCHOPPENHORST and her husband, Michael of Indianapolis, Ind., and Michiell ANDERSON of Alexandria,Va.

Phil's caring attitude, zest for life, and warm charisma will be sorely missed here at Fort Monroe.
