Greetings
from Washington DC. Jan and I hope all is well with each of you and
yours.
Often I feel this article reads like the broken record used to
sound-on and on with the same notes and words. Remember the
scratched 78 RPM records? But considering there are only 120
days or so before REUNION 2000 - with some available rooms in the
hotel and open seats at the events-I encourage you to forward your
reunion applications and make those hotel reservations now. We
must release unfilled hotel rooms by 30 June.
Jim and Glenna Martens, with a good number of dedicated team-mates,
are developing a wonderful program for you. The reunion
schedule has something for everyone - from sitting around the
swimming pool enjoying conversations with friends, to touring the
many wonderful monuments, exhibits and museums. Then, if you
have some more energy, you can party or attend the theater in the
evenings.
Sunday is a mix of organized and free-time events, with plenty of
time to visit and tell war stories. On Monday, we will conduct
a bit of official business, including: (1) election of RAFINO
officers, (2) briefing on recent Army Finance and Accounting
operational changes, (3) update on Reunion 2002, and (4) discussion
of location for Reunion 2004. Members are asked to bring their
ideas for 2004.
Upon completion of the business meeting, we will travel to Arlington
Cemetery to place a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown as tribute to
all military men and women who have gone before us. I am sure
we will each bring personal thoughts and memories of our fallen
finance friends.
We will have our formal dinner Monday night - without long speeches,
but with some special awards for those who have worked above and
beyond to make RAFINO the great organization it is.
I want to thank Claud Wallace for his hard work keeping the web site
current and interesting, and for publication of his first RAFINO
Newsletter, as editor. Can't wait to see the final product.
A sincere thanks to Bob Flewelling for his tireless support of the
web site and reunion administration. Bob does a tremendous
amount of work that is vital to RAFINO operations, but his many
contributions are not always visible to the membership. He
deserves our deep appreciation for ensuring that RAFINO runs
professionally and efficiently.
As of now the Washington Finance Regimental Dinner is scheduled for
14 October 2000 at Fort Belvoir, VA. We will keep you
informed.
Have an enjoyable summer, and do try to make the trip to Washington
for REUNION 2000. See you in September. |
