RAFINO Report
ISSUE 24 - Spring 2000
- Return to Index

The loud and clear message from your new Editor is,

"WE NEED YOU ON THE NET." www.rafino.org

Last October I accepted the challenge of trying to do as good a job of keeping everyone informed as Chick has done for years. My first objective as new editor of the RAFINO Report was to improve communication with as many members as I could, as rapidly as I could. The only way that I could see for accomplishing this objective was to use modern communication technology and establish a web site.

The Executive committee authorized me to proceed on this venture and on 15 December 1999 we opened the first phase of www.rafino.org . Since then the web has been growing and is now being updated every Wednesday with current happenings in the RAFINO family and world.

The problem that remains is that only 300 of the 700 members are on the Internet. As I see it, 42.9% is not a passing grade. That is why I need your help. It is obvious to me that a newsletter every 6 months will not do a good job of keeping members informed of current happenings. It took very little research to figure out that the cost would preclude us from issuing a weekly newsletter. Even a quarterly letter would not be as effective for getting current information to you as the web that is updated weekly.

The only answer that I can see for getting current information to you is for each of you to get an e-mail address and send it to Bob Flewelling. Bob will then give you the key for access to the membership roster. A password must be used to get into the roster for security reasons.

If you receive this newsletter by snail mail you need to understand that:

1. This letter has been on the web site for at least 2 weeks, and that much of the data has been on the web for several months.

2. Based on the reports that are coming in from those on the Internet, you are missing out on the RAFINO news as it happens.

3. I cannot solve the problem of getting you informed on a current basis.

So please:

Check the web site out at a friend’s house, the Library or somewhere else, and

Get a computer and join in the fun.

This Newsletter is number 24 and is being issued in May 2000. The first 23 Issues were the handiwork of our founder and President Emeritus Chick Cecchini. The RAFINO web site is dedicated to Chick in recognition of his devotion to the idea of improving communication among our members.

NOTICE

Your Editor and the Reunion 2000 Committee has done everything that we can think of to entice you into joining us for the RAFINO activities. There was not room in this News Letter to include the 5 Pubs, 10 great places to Dine and the 35 sights to see in Washington, DC while at the Reunion. You can see the presentation of all of these 50 places complete with pictures, web site references and great descriptions that were written by Dick Darcy at www.rafino.org . See you in September.
