RAFINO Report
ISSUE 20 - Spring 1998
- Return to Index

George, Our Prez, Sez:

Sure hope you survived El Niņo and all the strange weather across the nation. It was a wonderfully warm winter in the Washington, DC area.

Bob Flewelling, Phil Anderson and "Chick" Cecchini took advantage of the weather and the lack of snow shoveling to refine our RAFINO infrastructure.  Personal new computer equipment and Bob Flewelling's new systems have been installed to reduce the workload and provide better support to you.  We use the Internet daily to communicate almost seamlessly across the nation while reducing our telephone bills.  When you get a chance please tell these gentlemen how much you appreciate their efforts.

To our many new members, please accept my very warm and sincere welcome.  We hope you enjoy the RAFINO organization and the comradeship of your fellow Army Finance Officers and their families.  We're happy that we continue to add new members to our rolls.  Judy Havenhill, Stew Ridgeway and a few others have called recently requesting new membership application forms.  Thanks to you all for your recruiting efforts.  But don't let lack of a form stop you from signing up a new member.  Just get the name and address, telephone number, and rank at retirement, plus a check for $7.00 and send it all on to Phil Anderson whose address is listed on Page 1 of this newsletter.  He'll be happy and quick to take care of the rest, to include getting the rest of the data we need to complete the member database file.

Colonel "Mo" Denny and his reunion committee are in full swing preparing for our arrival at Columbia, SC, in late September.  We owe Frank Socky a big vote of thanks for getting the plans for this reunion underway but Frank had to step aside due to pressing personal reasons; but happily, Frank will be at the reunion to enjoy it with us.  On the Inside Front Cover of this newsletter is the latest information on the reunion.  If you haven't already sent in your reunion pre-registration just let Bob Flewelling know (see reunion page).  He'll fix you up fast!  If you have already sent in your pre-registration form you need do nothing now.  Just wait for Bob to contact you by letter to confirm your plans to be at the reunion.  And if you do plan to attend, please let us know as early as you can to give our committee the best possible lead time for planning.

Reunion 98 is going to be different because we'll be spending time at Fort Jackson and with today's soldiers.  We will see how the Finance School goes about preparing these young men and women "TO SUPPORT AND SERVE" the Warfighters.  For those of you who have been stationed at or visited Fort Jackson in the past ---- Fort Jackson today is not the Fort Jackson of days gone by.  The wooden barracks, headquarters, theaters, and supply buildings constructed on the rolling sand hills for WWII have been replaced with modern functional facilities.  Fort Jackson is ready to perform well into the 21st Century!

The annual Finance Corps Regimental Banquets were held the 2nd of May at Ft. Belvoir, VA, and on the 15th of May at Ft. Jackson, SC.  I hope you were able to get to at least one of them.  Jan and I were fortunate to be at both - and seeing many of you there also, we really enjoyed ourselves.

Finally, a grand "Thank You" to each of you who has volunteered to serve on the various committees for the '98 reunion.  Your work is greatly appreciated and we will tell you so formally in September.

See you there, George, (and Jan, too, of course)
