POPE JOHN PAUL II
ORDERS AWARD TO JOHN ROGAN

Our own John Rogan, who long has been a very prominent outstanding lay person volunteer in many facets of the Roman Catholic Church, and a recipient of much recognition and many high awards as a result, received an extraordinary award from the Pope himself, presented by the Bishop of Madison, Wisconsin.  It was on 23 Nov 97 during a solemn church ceremony that John was awarded the rare designation of "Knight Commander of St. Gregory The Great."  The Order of St. Gregory the Great, is described as the most recognizable of Papal awards.  It was instituted in 1831 and named by Pope Gregory XVI in honor of Pope St. Gregory the Great.  It is bestowed as a special mark of favor of the Pope for persons who diligently serve the Church.  Those with the rank of Knight wear their insignia at solemn liturgical ceremonies.  (Ed: Our congratulations, John, we know how well you deserve this prestigious award.)
