101st Finance Gander Crash Memorial Update #3: Our action committee and onsite 101st FMSU/DMPO officials have been working with Pratt Museum and Ft. Campbell officials to relocate the granite memorial from museum storage to the finance office grounds. However, we have hit a speed bump in that the Ft. Campbell CG has mandated that all unit memorials will be placed in a consolidated area (memorial row). The rationale for this is monuments once placed here will not have to be relocated when units deactivate or change locations on post. Unfortunately for us, the Sustainment Brigade portion of the memorial row is not ready for monument placement and we don't know when it will be. Our onsite team will continue to coordinate with Ft. Campbell officials and try to gain an exception to place the monument at the existing finance building, our first choice. Regardless the eventual site for the relocation of the monument, some source of funding will be required. To help with this we have an onsite, former 101st Finance Soldier currently working in a resource management position that is coordinating with our committee and onsite team. This project is taking a lot longer than I thought it would, but we are committed to getting the memorial out of the storage facility and rededicated in a proper place of honor. Stay tuned.
